For most people, one of the traditions of being a college student is having very little spending money. Even if you are working while attending classes, tuition, books and rent are likely burning up most of your cash, leaving very little left for food.

Fortunately, another tradition for college students is eating Ramen Noodles. These tasty and inexpensive flavored Asian noodles are as much a college tradition as frat parties, tailgaters and panty raids.

Ramen Noodles are Inexpensive

Probably the biggest appeal of Ramen Noodles to the average college student is that they are one of the most inexpensive foods you can buy. Usually you can get at least a few packages of Ramen Noodles for one single dollar, sometimes several packages!

Let’s face it, when you don’t have much money, you need to seek out the best bargains you can find. Ramen noodles definitely are one of the biggest bargains available. Regardless of where you buy them, you will never spend very much money for this delicious and filling soup.

Ramen Noodles are Easy to Prepare

Whether you live in a dorm room, frat house, sorority or off-campus apartment, you probably are limited in the amount of kitchen equipment you have at your disposal. College is not like your parents’ house, which may be stocked with all the latest, or at least modern, cooking equipment and a wealth of pots, pans and kitchen implements.

For the average college student’s kitchen -- if they are lucky enough to have one -- a single pot or a few hand-me-down bowls may be all they have. Fortunately, this is plenty of equipment for preparing Ramen Noodles.

Because Ramen Noodles are prepared by simply adding water and the flavor packet, then heating them up, they require very little in terms of equipment. They can be cooked on a stovetop, a microwave, a hot pot, or basically anything with a heating element.

Ramen Noodles can be prepared in a small metal pot, or right in the soup bowl if you are using a microwave oven. The only other requirement is a spoon, and that may even be optional in a pinch.

Ramen Noodles are Cool

When you are in college, it is cool to eat Ramen Noodles. It means you are struggling just like everybody else. Ramen Noodles have been a part of the poor college student’s diet for generations. If you ask your parents, they probably will admit to eating their share of Ramen Noodles during their undergraduate days.

So not only is surviving college on Ramen Noodles easy, it is a proud college tradition that is inexpensive, easy to prepare, and will make you one of the cool kids.
